What is sustainability?
Simply defined, sustainability means meeting today's needs without compromising the ability of future generations to sustain themselves. With regard to our mission, we choose to design and build fine furniture from materials and finishes that are healthier for our clients as well as for the environment.
Materials
Woods
Our furniture is constructed from FSC-certified hardwoods and bamboo plywoods. The FSC stamp, created by the Forest Stewardship Council, ensures that all parties involved in the planting, harvesting, shipment, rough cutting, and sale of hardwoods are committed to sustainable practices. This includes a constant internal analysis of production methods in an effort to reduce the harmful effects of traditional lumber practices. Bamboo plywoods are new to the market, and offer craftsmen an abundant and rapidly-renewable material that has a much less harmful effect on the ecological regions in which it is grown. Bamboo is a grass that continually sends up new shoots after being harvested by hand, so it does not require replanting.
Finishes
Our furniture is sealed with water-based natural whey finishes. This helps to support our sustainable mission in two ways; first, we are reducing our dependence on common petroleum-based finishes, and second, our furniture is protected by a long-lasting and durable finish with VOC levels much lower than the Federal minimum standard. This ensures a better air quality and healthier product for your home. In addition, all of the cans our finishes are shipped to us within are made from post consumer materials which are recycled after use.
Some of are pieces are painted, as well, with milk paint. Milk paint is completely free of VOCs (volatile organic compounds), lead, mercury, and petroleum by-products making it safe for children's toys and furniture.
Fabrics
We offer upholstery fabrics from KnollTextiles CR Series of Environmental Upholstery Fabrics, Greenguard certified for low chemical emissions.
Commissions
Delivery
Delivery is by common carrier and rates are quoted on the size & weight
of the order and the specified delivery location. This does not include
inside delivery, unpacking, or disposal of shipping materials. Inside delivery, unpacking, and installation
may be quoted on a per project basis for large volume orders. Please request a quote for these services if
your project deems them necessary.
Warranty
Our furniture is guaranteed against fabrication defects in materials and/or craftsmanship for one year from the date of delivery when our recommendations for care & use are followed. Any faulty warranted item, if returned freight pre-paid by the original purchaser, will be repaired or replaced, at our discretion, free of charge.
